Dr. Hugo Strange appears for the first time in the episode "The Strange Secret of Bruce Wayne in Detective Comics # 36 (February 1940) and works as a psychiatrist in a hospital, even if secretly built a machine that reads people's minds. With it, he discovers that Wayne is Batman, then contact the Joker, Two-Face and The Penguin.
